Rota Club de Golf
The Naval base is located in the Municipality of Rota, under the joint command of Spain and the USA who share the facilities. The “CAPTAIN JAKE DENNIS” Golf course is situated on the base, known locally as the Rota Naval Base golf course. Construction of this peculiar Golf course began in 1953 and was completed in 1955, thus becoming one of the golf courses in the province of Cadiz with the longest tradition. It is an 18-hole course, and its most difficult aspect resides in the ruggedness of the terrain itself, with slow greens and hard fairways, not to mention the ever-impressive Eucalyptus trees, which force players to play a cautious game, punishing them severely, should they leave the fairway, out of which circumstances was born the famous “golpe roteño” or “Rota stroke” frequently used by the local players.
