In the last corner of the eastern coast of Andalusia, above the Almanzora Valley, with easy access from the international airports of Almeria and Alicante, Desert Springs has built the first European course in the Arizona desert style. Designed by Peter McEvoy, who led the British-Irish Walker Cup team that recently beat the United States, Desert Springs, built to all USGA specifications, is well worth playing. The difference with the ‘normal’ courses is obvious, which is normal considering that this is the desert where many western movies were filmed, so a tough golf course fits here perfectly. Desert Springs is not as tough as it seems, but it is a great challenge for the golfer in a curious setting, with cacti, crocuses and dry riverbeds, hitherto unknown in Europe.
